Waste valorization and biorefinery

Valorisation is a relatively new concept in the field of industrial residues and waste management promoting the principle of sustainable development. One of the valorisation objectives regarding e.g. food processing by-products, waste and effluents is the recovery of fine chemicals and the production of precious metabolites via chemical and biotechnological processes. IBET has selected some key process were a full valorisation strategy for cork and wood industrial wastes is currently under development, as well as sub-products from the vegetable oil industry ,coffee processing and from biodiesel industry.
