iBET was present at the 26th ESACT Meeting
Last week, a large group of scientists from iBET were present at the 26th European Society for Animal Cell Technology (ESACT) Meeting presenting a total of 3 oral presentations and 16 posters, and as chair of one workshop. The event took place from 5 to 8 May, in Copenhagen, and could count with around 1000 participants in many scientific topics.
The ESACT is a society which brings together scientists, engineers and other specialists working with animal cells to promote communication and share of experiences between investigators. ESACT meetings are famous for excellent networking opportunities and exchange of ideas between academic groups and Biotech and Pharma companies through high quality oral presentations, engaging and interactive poster sessions, and an exclusive social programme.
The theme of the 26th ESACT Meeting was “Cell culture technologies: bridging academia and industry to provide solutions for patients”. iBET was selected to present its research in Gene Therapy, 3D cell models and in vitro disease models: Ana Coroadinha, head of Cell Line Development and Biotechnology Lab, presented our new stable cell lines for the production of Lentiviral vectors; Catarina Brito, head of Advanced Cell Models Lab, presented the work developed in collaboration with Merck KGaA for the development of a 3D hepatic cell platform for malaria drug discovery; and Maria João Sebastião, scientist at the Animal Cell Technology (ACT) Unit which presented her work on in vitro models of myocardial injury.
Additionally, iBET scientists presented 16 scientific posters, and co-chaired the workshop “Design Thinking to foster Innovation and Creativity”. Manuel Carrondo, Vice-President of iBET, was responsible to hand over the ESACT honorary membership to Hansjörg Hauser in acknowledge for his lifelong contribution to the field of Animal Cell Technology.
