Biotechnology Engineer, one year maternity leave vacancy (Job posting 1203946)
In this position you take on the planning, execution and analysis of experiments on the expression of recombinant proteins in bacteria, mammalian and insect cells. You are driving the systematic optimization of expression, including the use of statistical experimental design (DoE). You monitor product and process quality by utilizing analytical methods such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, Octet System, ELISA, microscopy and spectrometry. Further, you express proteins by transient transfection, work on biological samples for qualitative and quantitative analysis, and control the fermentation in different bioreactor systems. Finally, you take care of the cryopreservation and cultivation of expression systems, produce virus stocks and create work instructions.
The position is located at the Merck KGaA headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany
Required qualifications
Biotechnology engineer or technician with several years relevant work experience
In-depth experience in recombinant protein expression
Hands on knowledge of tissue culture and microbiology techniques
English written and spoken, German is a plus
Very good experimental skills and strong technical understanding
Familiarity with relevant process control and analysis software
Ability to quickly and successfully adapt to a new environment
Reliability and accuracy under multitasking
Problem-oriented thinking and efficient self-organization
Proactive communication and enjoying working in a team
