Ana Sofia Coroadinha is the Head of Cell Line Development and Molecular Virology Lab at Animal Cell Technology Unit, ITQB-NOVA and iBET, Portugal, since 2009.
She has a Biochemistry degree University of Lisbon) and a PhD in Gene Therapy performed at Généthon (France), Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (Germany) and iBET Portugal), granted in 2005 by ITQB- NOVA. Working in Animal Cell Technology since 1997, her PhD contributed to the advance on stable cell line development by incorporating recombination mediated cassette exchange systems for gene therapy gammaretroviral vectors manufacture.
She became an auxiliary investigator in 2006 and an independent Researcher (Lab Head) of ITQB-NOVA (New University of Lisbon) in 2009 where she has been contributing in the development and engineering of recombinant virus and cells, namely for the manufacturing of lentiviral, adenoviral and adeno-associated vectors. Additionally, she developed novel tools for viral vector expression, cell line screening and virus detection.
Current Research: Her research interests focus on applied virology with the aim to provide therapeutic solutions for human healthcare through the use of recombinant virus. Focusing on the areas of gene therapy the research comprises the development of expression systems, development of cell substrates and cell lines, recombinant virus and viral particles engineering, and development of enabling tools for virus research.
