Cristina Peixoto is Head of the Downstream Process Development lab at Animal Cell Technology Unit of iBET, since 2009.
Cristina graduated in Applied Chemistry (Branch Biotechnology) at the New University of Lisbon and she holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences (2008) from Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) from New University of Lisbon.
Her work is focused on the establishment of several scalable purification processes for complex biopharmaceuticals, mainly virus and virus like particles for vaccine and gene therapy. Cristina is also involved in several technology transfer activities namely towards GMP manufacturing
Cristina coordinated more than 12 research contract projects with Industrial partners, is an invited lecturer since 2010 in several PhD programs, published over 67 papers, receiving a total of 2752 citations (h-index 27). She is responsible for the supervision of 8 PhD students (5 concluded), 7 Master students (5 concluded) and 3 post-doc fellows.
