Pedro Cruz

Pedro Cruz is iBET CTOO, Chief Technical Operations Officer.

Pedro Cruz graduated in Chemical Engineering – Biotechnology branch at the Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa, holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from Instituto de Tecnologia Química Biológica da Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Universidade Católica de Lisboa.

Working in Animal Cell Technology since 1992, his PhD contributed to the establishment of insect cell cultures and VLP production at iBET and to the production and DSP of viral vectors for gene therapy. He did part of his PhD studies at Innogenetics (Belgium) and at the HZI (Germany). At iBET until October 2011, he was involved in the start-up of iBET’s Pilot Plant and performed research in the fields of viral vaccines and gene therapy for almost 20 years. During this time Pedro has also represented iBET in several EC funded project, being coordinator in one of them. He has also coordinated a technological platform in an FP6 funded Network of Excellence (Clinigene). He was one of the founders of ECBio, S.A., a company devoted to the development of cell-based therapies, and its Chief Scientific Officer from 2003 to 2017. Within this role he has also been responsible for the management of the company, with emphasis in the technological development and market access areas. He is also Assistant Professor at the Atlântica School of Management Sciences, Health, IT & Engineering since 2000 and CTOO, IBET since January 2018.
