PhD Scientist – Natural Bioactives & Nutraceuticals

iBET is hiring a PhD holder to develop research activities according with the law D.L. n.º 57/2016, of August 29^th, updated by the law n.º 57/2017, July 19^th within the IC&TD Project “Agenda VIIAFOOD – Plataforma para a Valorização, Industrialização e Inovação commercial para o Agroalimentar”, framed in the notice nº 02/C05-i01/2022, financed by the Program for Recovery and Resilience (PRR) through CE

General requirements

1. Any national, foreigner and stateless candidate(s) holding a PhD degree in Biotechnology, Engineering and Technology Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Engineering and other;
2. Experience in animal cell culture technology, including the development of 3D cell models and co-cultures for applications in bioassays;
3. Experience in analytical methods using liquid chromatography and gas chromatography, for the characterization of bioactive compounds derived from natural sources;
4. Scientific maturity demonstrated in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals (reporting original work in the areas described above);
5. Experience in the supervision of bachelor’s, master and/or PhD’s students;
6. Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
7. Excellent interpersonal skills;
8. Fluency in English (oral and written).

Specific requirements

Research experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Bioactivity assays (chemical assays and cell-based assays) for the antioxidant activity, antiproliferative effect and anti-inflammatory effect evaluation of natural extracts/bioactive compounds;
• Anti-hyperglycemic activity assays of natural extracts/bioactive compounds, including enzymatic methods and cell-based assays (analysis of glucose transporters);
• Human intervention studies with food and food supplements for the evaluation of the bioactivity and bioavailability of natural bioactive compounds.

The recruitment is carried out by means of a work contract under the terms of the Portuguese Labour Code, for individuals holding a Doctoral Degree, corresponding to Level 34 of the single remuneration table (TRU), in accordance with Decree-Law no. 11-A /2017, of December 29.
