Post-doc Fellowship – Advanced Cell Models

Bioanalytics for cell characterization

Intro

iBET, has an open position for a postdoctoral research fellowship in the field of Bioinformatics available within the project SinTra – Workflows for single-cell transcriptomics in human cell-based bioprocesses and in vitro models, financed by iBETXplore through internal funds.

Admission Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Advanced Cell Models Laboratory, coordinated by Dr Catarina Brito. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Dr. Inês Isidro’s Lab in Biosystems and Data Science. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in single-cell transcriptomics with a specific focus on neuroinflammation and immunosuppression. This collaborative effort aims to advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation-related monogenic disorders and immunosuppressive brain cancer using state-of-the-art single-cell transcriptomic technologies to explore advanced cell models of disease.

Admission requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline, with a track record of publishing in the field.
  • Strong expertise and hands-on experience in transcriptomics, preferably in single-cell transcriptomics data, including preprocessing pipelines and downstream analyses, like differential gene expression and pathway/gene set enrichment analysis.
  • Research background in neuroinflammation or immunosuppression-related diseases is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with integrating multi-omics datasets and applying computational approaches for integrative analysis is highly desirable.
  • Experience with computational and statistical approaches, including machine learning algorithms, for analyzing biological data.
  • Hands-on experience in programming environments like Bash, R, or Python.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Work Plan

  • Conduct experiments in the field of single-cell transcriptomics to investigate the molecular changes associated with neuroinflammation/immunosuppression-related diseases.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation of single-cell transcriptomic datasets, including data preprocessing, quality control, differential expression analysis, and identification of cell subtypes and their gene expression profiles.
  • Contribute to developing and optimizing novel single-cell transcriptomic methodologies and technologies for studying neuroinflammation and immunosuppression-related diseases.
  • Apply computational and statistical approaches, including machine learning algorithms, to analyze and interpret single-cell transcriptomic data.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present research outcomes at conferences and seminars.
  • Collaborate with other members of the research teams, including graduate students and technicians, providing guidance and support in their research projects related to single-cell transcriptomics and inflammation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in single-cell transcriptomics, neuroinflammation, and computational approaches, actively participating in scientific discussions and journal clubs.

Fellowship Duration

The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 9 June of 2025.
