Principal Investigator, Food Biotechnology and Agriculture

PhD holder to develop research activities according in the Project Ref. 2023.15041.TENURE 001, financed by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia

A work contract will be established under the terms of the Portuguese Labour Code, for individuals holding a Doctoral Degree, corresponding to Level 220 of the Carreira de Investigação Científica according with Dec. Regulamental nº 11-A/2017,  29 December.

General requirements

1. Any national, foreigner and stateless candidate(s) holding a PhD degree in Engineering and Technology Sciences, Biotechnology.
2. PhD, completed at least 10 years before the application;
3. Research experience in process technologies for the extraction and formulation of natural bioactive compounds and bioactivity studies;
4. Demonstrated scientific maturity, in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals (reporting original work), in the areas described above;
5. Demonstrated ability to obtain independent funding in public and/or private scientific funding programmes;
6. Experience in the supervision of master’s and/or doctoral students;
7. Experience in establishing scientific collaborations with public and private institutions;
8. Experience in coordinating scientific platforms, including technology transfer, is desirable;
9. Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
10. Excellent interpersonal skills;
11. Fluency in English (oral and written).

Specific requirements

Experience in the following research areas:

1. design of green extraction and purification processes for the recovery of bioactive compounds from natural sources, including agrifood industry residues;
2. evaluation of bioactivity of natural compounds using cell based assays (e.g. anticancer and anti-inflammatory effect);
3. integration of cell-based assays with analytical tools to unveil the mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds in health
4. design of human intervention studies to evaluate the bioavailability and bioactivity of bioactive compounds present in foods and nutraceuticals;
