Research Fellowship (MSc) – Animal Cell Technology Unit

iBET, has an open position for a research fellowship in the field of Bioengineering available within the project “ContrAAV – Continuous multi-stage bioreactor production and purification of rAAV“, financed by iBET through the program iBETXplore 2023.

• Academic degree – Master in Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and related fields.
• Bachelor’s degree average equal to or greater than 15 (out of 20) and master’s degree average equal to or greater than 18 (out of 20);
• Experience in animal cell culture, preferably mammalian cells;
• Experience in cell culture, preferably in stirred systems (e.g. bioreactors);
• Experience in nanoparticles production, preferably viral vectors (e.g. rAAV);
• Experience in purification methods, preferably filtration (e.g. TFF) and chromatography (e.g. affinity, ion exchange);
• Experience in analytical methods, preferably SDS-PAGE, Western blot, PCR, ELISA, and mass photometry;
• Experience in data analysis using statistical tools;
• Motivation for applied research and good teamwork skills will be valued;
• Candidates with internships and/or periods abroad or in Portugal will be valued;
• Excellent knowledge of English, spoken and written.

Production of viral vectors in mammalian cells, development of continuous production and purification processes, and characterization of the final product using analytical techniques implemented in the laboratory.

The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 1 of April of 2025.
