Research Fellowship (MSc) – Announcement to obtain a Doctoral Degree

Intro

iBET, has an open position for a research fellowship in the field of Molecular Biophysics available within the project Biophysical Toolkits, Ref. 7003, financed by internal funds

Admission Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry for Health, Biological Engineering, Clinical Biochemistry, or related areas with an average grade of 16 or above.
  • Working experience and solid knowledge in the following techniques will be valued:
  • Protein expression in bacteria, mammalian and insect cells, including the design and execution of protein expression assays.
  • Protein purification (affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, and size-exclusion chromatography), purification analytics such as protein quantification, SDS-PAGE and Western blot, and preparation of protein complexes with crystallography-grade purity.
  • Biophysical techniques applied to the characterization of protein preparations and protein-protein/protein-ligand interactions (SPR, TSA, NanoDSF, NMR, fluorescence, UV-Vis, DLS).
  • Experience in Protein Structural Methods (Cryo-EM and X-ray Crystallography will be valued).
  • Protein crystallization screening set-up and protein crystal optimization
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Capable of working in the lab autonomously and with minimum supervision
  • Enthusiasm to proceed for a PhD

Work Plan

The goal of the project is to structurally characterize protein–ligand and ternary complexes relevant to drug discovery, conducted at iBET within the framework of a PhD. Advanced methods such as cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography will be applied to overcome challenges posed by flexible or low-affinity targets. A modular covalent assembly platform will be employed to facilitate the study of transient complexes. This integrated approach will expand structural accessibility of emerging drug modalities, supporting rational drug design and the development of innovative therapeutics.

Fellowship Duration

The fellowship will have a duration of 48 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 1 of March of 2026.
