Research Fellowship (MSc) – Immunogenicity of rAAV

Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET), Oeiras, Portugal, has a open position for a research fellowship in the field of Biomedical Sciences available within the project “Immunopredict – Immune cell assays for prediction of immunogenicity of recombinant Adeno-associated virus (rAAV)”, financed by internal funds.

Education

BSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Biological Engineering, or equivalent scientific areas. Average classification of BSc of at least 15 values.

Other requirements

• Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in animal cell culture, namely mammalian cell lines, primary myeloid and/or lymphoid cells;
• Experience in the following topics will be considered a plus:
  • Flow cytometry;
  • Fluorescence Microscopy;
  • Analytical methods (e.g., qPCR, ELISA, Western blot);
  • Molecular biology methods (e.g., enzymatic restriction, cloning);
  • Relevant software for data analysis and visualization (e.g., GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, FlowJo, R Studio);
  • Results-oriented, motivated, self-driven, and a team player;
  • Good spoken and written English expression;
  • Immediate availability.

The project aims to develop and implement in vitro assays using mononucleated cells from peripheral blood (myeloid and/or lymphoid lineage), to study the immunogenicity of biological therapeutic agents. We will develop in vitro assays using cells selected from peripheral blood mononucleated cells from buffy coats (e.g. T cells, monocytes), with the aim of studying the response of immune system cells to viral vectors (rAAVs) for gene therapy. Particularly, we will study the activation of monocyte-derived dendritic cells and consequent activation of T cells, after stimulation with viral vectors with different characteristics to predict their immunogenicity and understand the immunogenic response to new therapeutic modalities.

The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of the project, without prejudice to the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 15 of September of 2024.
