Research Fellowship (MSc) – Natural Bioactives and Nutraceuticals

iBET, has an open position for one Research Fellowship, within the framework of the project “Mush4Chol – Development of an efficient hypocholesterolemic formulation from mushroom bioresidues through a sustainable integrated strategy”, financed by FCT (2022.08844.PTDC).

– MSc with a minimum of 17 values in the scientific areas described above

– Experience in the extraction processes of bioactive compounds from natural matrices

– Experience in micro formulation techniques (e.g. spray drying)

– Experience in analytical tools (e.g. HPLC, GC, IR and NMR)

– Experience in in vitro digestion assays and cell-based assays

– Critical thinking, good organizational and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team

– Proficient use of the English language

– By the starting date of the fellowship, the fellow should be attending a non-degree academic course

The tasks to be carried out include the microencapsulation of mushroom extracts using spray drying technology, optimization of process operating conditions, and physicochemical characterization of the obtained microparticles using chromatographic techniques, namely HPLC and GC. The work will also involve the evaluation of the stability of free and encapsulated extracts, as well as bioaccessibility and bioavailability studies using in vitro gastrointestinal digestion models (INFOGEST) and transport and permeability assays in Caco-2 cells. The tasks further include the preparation of scientific reports and active participation in periodic meetings. Additionally, the position requires contributing to general laboratory tasks, promoting a culture of collaboration, achievement, and continuous improvement.

The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 1 of July of 2026.
