Research Fellowship (MSc) – Natural Bioactives & Nutraceuticals

Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET),  has a open position for a research fellowship within the project “PeptiByPro: Recovery of bioactive PEPTIdes from agro-food BY-PROducts”, financed by national funds through iBETXPlore 2023.

• MSc degree with a minimum classification of 16 values in the scientific areas described above;
• Experience in protein extraction and hydrolysis from plant matrices;
• Experience in methodologies for protein and peptide analysis (e.g. FTIR; SDS-Page; LC-MS);
• Experience in bioactivity assays (e.g., antioxidant, anti-hypertensive, anti-hyperglycemic assays, etc.) and cytotoxicity using chemical, enzymatic, and cellular models;
• Good organisational and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team;
• Excellent use of English;
• On the starting date, the candidate must be attending a course that does not confer an academic degree.

1) Characterization and pre-treatment of plant by-products;

2) Optimization of the protein extraction/hydrolysis process;

3) Optimization of the purification process to obtain peptide-rich fractions;

4) Characterization and bioactivity evaluation of peptide fractions;

5) Toxicity evaluation of peptide fractions.

The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 14 of November of 2024.
