Research Fellowship (MSc) – Translational Immunology

Intro
iBET, has an open position for a research fellowship in the field of Translational Immunology available within the project “Engineering hiPSC-derived macrophages (eiMACs) with tunable pro-inflammatory phenotype“ Ref. 2023.11607.PEX” call 2023, financed by FCT.
Admission Requirements
Master’s degree in Biological, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related areas, with an average classification of at least 16.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in working with human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC).
We value knowledge and experience in the following topics:
- Molecular biology methods (including PCR, qRT-PCR, vector cloning, cell transfection and transduction of lentivirus).
- Mammalian cell culture.
- Analytical methods (fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, functional assays).
- Relevant software for data analysis and visualization (e.g. GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, FlowJo, R)
- Analysis, discussion, and presentation of scientific data (e.g. conferences talk, posters and peer-reviewed publications).
Work plan
Engineering human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) with an inducible CRISPR interference system to generate a hiPSC-derived macrophage cell line with tunable proinflammatory phenotype. Main tasks include:
– Culture and cell differentiation of hiPSC.
– Genomic engineering of cells.
– Functional characterization of cells by qPCR, Flow Cytometry and microscopy.
Fellowship Duration
The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months. The expected starting date is the 15th of February of 2025.
