Research Fellowship (MSc) – Translational Immunology

Intro

iBET,has an open position for a research fellowship in the field of Translational Immunology available within the project “AdCAM – Scalable bioprocessing of engineered hiPSC-derived macrophages with an adaptable CAR“, financed by iBETXplore.

Admission Requirements

Master’s degree in Biological, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related areas, with an average classification of at least 18.

The candidate should have experience in working with human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC) and hPSC genetic engineering.

We value knowledge and experience in the following topics:

1)            Molecular biology methods (including PCR, qRT-PCR, vector cloning, cell transfection and transduction of lentivirus).

2)            Human pluripotent stem cell culture.

3)            Analytical methods (fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, functional assays).

4)            Relevant software for data analysis and visualization (e.g. GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, FlowJo, R)

5)            Analysis, discussion, and presentation of scientific data (e.g. conferences talk, posters and peer-reviewed publications).

The candidate is expected to be motivated, self-driven, and able to work in a team, but also independently.

Good command of the English language, both spoken and written, is required (candidates with internships and/or periods abroad will be valued).

Work Plan

Engineering human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) to generate a hiPSC-derived macrophage cell line that expresses a CAR construct and establishing the scale-up production in bioreactors. Main tasks include:

– Culture and cell differentiation of hiPSC into macrophages.

– Genomic engineering of cells using CRISPR and recombinant mediated cassette exchange.

– Culture cells and differentiation in bioreactors.

– Functional characterization of cells by qPCR, Flow Cytometry and microscopy.

Fellowship Duration

The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, eventually renewed until the end of project, without prejudice of the maximum limits foreseen by law. The expected starting date is 1 of March of 2026.
