On 4 November 2020, researchers from the Food & Health Division gathered with industry and research partners from CEDOC-NMS, IPOLFG and SOVENA, in an event entitled “Hydroxytyrosol Day“.
Hydroxytyrosol is a phenolic compound present in olive oil and in subproducts from the olive oil industry with relevant bioactive properties, such as antioxidant, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity, with special interest for health and well-being.
iBET’s research focus on olive oil matrices includes strategies to chemically synthetize it, strategies to isolate hydroxytyrosol from natural sources and the evaluation of hydroxytyrosol as health promoting ingredient in food supplement.
This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss ongoing projects in this research area, and understand how iBET can support companies to achieve their goals more efficiently through technology transfer.
