Head of Flow Cytometry Unit

Biography

I am Head of Flow Cytometry Lab at iBET since October 2025. My focus is to bridge the science to the technology and invest in advancing next-generation flow cytometry platforms at iBET with the goal of developing flow cytometry analytical and single-cell sorting tools to accelerate bioprocesses and the manufacturing of next generation cell therapies.

I have a Ph.D in Biomedical Sciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, I have worked in academia in the EU and in biotech industry since 2017 working in US-based cell and gene therapy companies.

I have over 15 years of experience in leading assay design, development & implementation of flow cytometry-based assays for advancing cell-based therapies. Expertise in analytical method development for product characterization, potency assays, immunophenotyping and biomarker discovery.

I have technical and operational competencies in managing shared resource flow cytometry CORE laboratories, developing scientific/technical training programs, panel design and high-dimensional data analyses. I specialize in single-cell multi-parametric sorting for autologous and allogeneic cell products used for adoptive cell therapies.

I am passionate in driving technical innovation and operations, strategic development and implementation of state-of-the-art analytical and cell sorting platforms for cell and gene therapy manufacturing, focusing on automation, digitalization and operational excellence from early discovery & preclinical research to clinical manufacturing for cancer immunotherapeutics.
