Advancing Extracellular Vesicles Purification: iBET at International Meeting Affinity 2025

A Novel Approach for Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) Purification Using VHH-based Immune-affinity Chromatography

Researcher Afonso Ruiz presented iBET’s latest work on Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) Purification at the 26th Meeting of the International Society for Molecular Recognition (Affinity 2025), held at Raleigh, USA on June 2-4.

His oral presentation, titled “Selective isolation of extracellular vesicles from cell culture supernatant using immuno-affinity chromatography”, introduced a novel approach for EVs purification using VHH-based immune-affinity chromatography.

This approach, which employs camelid-derived ligands, offers a scalable and high-purity option for EV isolation, a promising step towards EV-based therapies. Part of the presented work is now published, the full article is available here. Congratulations Afonso and remaining co-authors for the accomplishment.

In addition, thank you to iBET researchers Ana Meliciano and Margarida Serra for their valuable contributions to some of the work presented.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Stefano Menegatti and Michael Daniele for the excellent organization of Affinity 2025.
