1st Iberian Meeting on Supercritical Fluids
iBET was present at the 1st Iberian Meeting on Supercritical Fluids (EIFS 2020). The event was held on the 18 and 19 February in Santiago de Compostela, Spain and brought together the Iberian research community and industry working on supercritical fluids.
At EIFS2020, iBET contributed with an oral communication entitled “Integrated microwave and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction processes for astaxanthin recovery from brown crab residues” which was presented by Ana Nunes.
In this presentation, Ana Nunes shared the research that is being done at the Nutraceuticals and Bioactives Process Technology Laboratory on the use of green methodologies for the exploitation of byproducts from the crustacean processing industry. In this case, it is proposed the integration of microwave pretreatment and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction for the recovery of valuable compounds from marine crustacean waste streams.
iBET participation in this conference was a valuable opportunity to disseminate the research carried out at iBET on supercritical fluids, an emerging technology with several applications. It also contributed to strenghten the ties and collaborations between the Iberian research community and industry.
