Evaluation of IBET’s Strategic Plan – October 8

The environment involving iBET has changed significantly since 1989, and the Directors, in particular at Executive level, decided that "decentralizing” power has to be the main goal for the future. It becomes obvious that the "younger generation” has to get the change to take care of their own destinies. The strategic plan that will be presented is already, to a large extent, the work of the "younger generation. iBET has to look into the future and be prepared for the hard, but also, challenging times. Specially, in difficult and competitive environments, we must act proactive, with strongly and keep focused. Foster new opportunities and develop the existing ones are key to success. With this entire in mind iBET decided that it was time to analyze the competitive environment that surrounds the institution in order to decide what iBET should become in the coming five to ten years. To support us in this evaluation, iBET invited a Consulting Board of distinguish members with different backgrounds but with an huge experience in this field. Thomas Blundell, President, Biotechnol & Biological Sciences Res. Council, UK (ex-Director Dep. Biochemistry, Cambridge University), Gérard Goma, Centre de Transfert en Biotechnologies et Microbiologie de l'Institut National des Sciences Appliquées, Toulouse, Joachim Klein, President, Academy of Sciences, Braunschweig (ex-President Ges. Fur Biotechnologische Forschung), Daniel I.C. Wang, Institute Professor, MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, EUA Innumerous opportunities exist in the healthcare field, namely with the rapid innovation pace in medicine with new therapies becoming applied and commercial. Opportunities for IBET also become more evident as the global agricultural biotechnology market grows steadily and the market requirement for improved safety and quality in food products becomes a reality. On the other hand, science and technology transfer to society plays an increasingly important role in today’s world, where the access to knowledge and know-how are valuable economic commodities; IBET must be able to serve this market in an efficient and lucrative way. The Consulting Board gave their opinion about iBET and give us the way to reach our goals. Our Researchers and Partner's asked and suggested some new ideas. To all of them , our thanks.
