“How to Communicate Effectively to an Audience”
In line with iBET’s People Development Plan, over 40 iBETians completed a three-day intensive course on How to Communicate Effectively to an Audience during the months of November and December.
Tailored for iBET’s Heads of Areas, Senior Scientists, and other staff responsible for internal and external lines of communication, the course covered topics such as: Presentation Planning and Structuring, Public Speaking and Stage Communication Techniques, Non-verbal Communication, Posture and Voice.
Facilitated by Pedro Antão from ThinkPlus Consulting, the first day emphasized the strategic planning and organization of ideas prior to the preparation of presentation slides. Through practical exercises, the participants immediately applied these concepts to their own presentations.
Subsequent modules, led by Francisco Mendes, focused on practicing public speaking and stage communication techniques. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises and received personalized feedback on crucial aspects including posture, voice, and non-verbal communication.
The final half-day featured an immersive studio experience to apply the course learnings while recording presentations in front of a camera. Pedro Pinto, journalist and national TV pivot, together with trainer Francisco Mendes, offered tailored feedback to help everyone improve from very good to excellent. The importance of pauses and silence to emphasize key messages when communicating was one of the most underlined aspects in this final session.
With this continued investment, iBET aims to support its internal talent in becoming more effective and persuasive communicators, not only when communicating their scientific work but in all aspects of their professional life.
iBET acknowledges the quality and professionalism of the trainers involved, confirmed by the overall positive feedback received from the participants.
