iBET participates in EATRIS National Hub meeting 2023
INFARMED, the National Authority for Medicines and Health, hosted the National Hub Annual Meeting of the EATRIS Network (European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine) on October 4th.
This meeting served as a platform for the Portuguese member institutions to come together, share and reflect on achievements and forthcoming challenges within the scope of their participation in the network.
EATRIS is a collaborative network committed to bringing together resources and services for research communities and translating scientific discoveries into clinical practice that benefit patients. The network focuses their activities on 5 main topics: advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), imaging and tracing, small molecules, vaccines, and biomarkers.
iBET joined EATRIS in 2019 and participates in the ATMPs and vaccines platforms.
António Roldão, head of the Cell-based Vaccine Development lab, represented iBET in this EATRIS National Hub meeting. António presented an update on iBET’s activities in the areas of focus of EATRIS and emphasized iBET’s participation in the following research consortia:

- TRANSVAC (European vaccine research and development infrastructure) and TRANSVAC DS (Design study for a European vaccine infrastructure)
- ISIDORe (Integrated services for infectious diseases outbreak research)
- canServ (Providing cutting edge cancer research services across europe)
- HAPLO-IPS (Generation of Human Induced Pluripotent STEM Cells from Haplo-selected Cord Blood Samples)
The Portuguese National Hub of EATRIS, coordinated by Infarmed, was formally accepted to EATRIS in July 2019 and currently includes 16 specialized centers across the country. Present in this years’ meeting were ICVS-2CA (University of Minho - Braga), AIBILI (Coimbra), CHUC (Coimbra), CICS-UBI (Covilhã), I3S (University of Porto - Oporto), iBB (Instituto Superior Técnico – Lisbon), iMM (Lisbon), Portuguese Oncology Institute – IPO (Oporto), VectorB2B, and NOVA Medical School (Lisbon).
