iBET Welcomes University of Alabama Students for Summer Exchange Program

Fostering international collaboration and research in biotechnology.

This summer, iBET welcomed six undergraduate students from the University of Alabama, USA, as part of the PURE BLISS (Portugal Undergraduate Research Experience in Biotechnology and Life Sciences) Research Program.

The students were integrated into three iBET’s groups: Advanced Cell Models Lab, the Stem and Immune Cells Bioengineering Lab, and the Natural Bioactives & Nutraceuticals Lab.

Over the course of June and July, the students gained hands-on experience and actively contributing to ongoing research projects.  “ Spending the past two months at iBET has been incredibly enriching. I am thankful for the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge, translational research, supported by the brilliant mentors and top-of-the-line equipment from here at iBET. I’m excited to bring the techniques, methods, and skills I’ve honed here to my research projects back in the US.” – Kateri Smith, who worked on Brain Models in the Advanced Cell Models Lab.

This exchange was made possible thanks to the coordination of Professor Yonghyun (John) Kim from the University of Alabama. Catarina Brito, Margarida Serra, Teresa Serra, and the respective lab teams played a key role in hosting and mentoring the students, creating an engaging and supportive research environment.
