Biography

I am a scientist at the Food Safety and Microbiology Lab, an applied microbiology enthusiast and a versatile and motivated researcher that tackles several aspects of microbial ecology and biotechnology, as well as plant/algae-bacteria interactions.

In my research activities I employ a multidisciplinary approach rooted in applied microbiology, bioprocess engineering, microbial ecology, evolutionary biology, the study of eukaryote-microbe molecular interactions, and bioinformatics (genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics). During my professional activities, I have participated in national and international projects, worked in several labs (Portugal, Canada, Brazil, and the Netherlands), and interacted with multiple collaborators in co-authorship of scientific papers and projects. Currently, I act as Principal Investigator and manager of the FCT-funded project, “PhycoµBiome: Understanding and harnessing the power of the microalgae microbiome aiming the maximization of marine microalgae productivity” and as a researcher in the Tec4Green project, participating in the development of biological solutions for plant protection.
