National & International Research Networks
iBET is an active member of several national and international research networks in the fields of Bioinformatics, Advanced Therapies, Drug Discovery, and Animal Cell Technology.
National & International Research Networks
iBET’s participation in a range of R&D networks amplifies our visibility, fosters both academic and industry partnerships, and enables knowledge exchange.
It also provides access to specialized resources and strengthens collaborations that drive global research efforts across biotechnology, health, and life sciences.
Biodata
Biodata is a National Research Infrastructure (non-profit association) that unites 15 life sciences Research and Innovation (R&I) organizations.

It supports the national scientific system by promoting best practices in data management and delivering state–of–the–art data analysis. By bridging academia and industry, Biodata ensures research translates into innovation across the agri-food, forestry, sea, and health industry sectors.
Biodata also manages the Portuguese node of the European Life Sciences Infrastructure for Biological Information (ELIXIR) network. Biodata’s services include ELIXIR services such as training programme and computing facilities, consulting in data analysis and management, and a range of community services.

EATRIS
EATRIS is a European Research Infrastructure dedicated to accelerating translational research across five major areas: ATMP, Small Molecules, Vaccines, Inflammation & Immune Monitoring, Biomarkers and Imaging & Tracing.
By integrating resources and expertise from over 150 leading academic institutions across Europe, EATRIS supports research communities transform scientific discoveries into real benefits for patients. The infrastructure provides access to extensive pre-clinical and clinical expertise and facilities, helping to improve and optimize the preclinical and early development of drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.
Within this network, iBET contributes to the ATMP, and Vaccines, Inflammation & Immune Monitoring platforms.
ESACT
Founded in 1976, ESACT brings together scientists, engineers and other specialists working with animal cells to promote scientific dialogue and nurture continued development in the field.

It focuses on all topics related to the application of animal cells, such as:
- Genetic study of cells and metabolic understanding of cellular processes including cellular communication and differentiation,
- Production process development and validation,
- Product characterization and manufacturing,
- Regulatory issues for product release and approval,
- Efficacy, safety and application of the final product.
iBET’s CEO Prof. Paula Alves, served as ESACT president between 2017-22 and as a member of the executive committee for 15 years. iBET’s Lab Head António Roldão is currently an elected member. The 27th ESACT Annual Conference, held in Lisbon in June 2022, was chaired by Prof. Paula Alves.
ACTIP
ACTIP is an independent, non-profit association that brings together European companies and institutions dedicated to the industrial use of advanced cell technologies.

ACTIP’s mission is to foster collaboration among experts, promote knowledge exchange on cutting-edge developments and focus on technological and applied-oriented challenges in the field.
Key focus areas include production of biopharmaceuticals, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, gene therapy vectors and safety testing.
