Giacomo Domenici
Scientist / Advanced Cell Models for Drug Discovery and Translational Research

Biography
I have been an Scientist at the Advanced Cell Models Lab of iBET since 2018. My key areas of interest include cancer cell biology, the innate immune response, the tumor microenvironment, oncoimmunology, and the development of novel targeted therapies against cancer.
At iBET, my research has focused on the development and application of translational 3D cell models for both fundamental and applied cancer research. These models have been employed in several research projects, including collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry. My expertise includes cell and molecular biology, cell signaling, and primary and 3D cell culture methodologies.
I hold a MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (University of Rome “La Sapienza”) and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine from the University of the Basque Country (2017, Spain), developed at the research center CICbioGUNE (Derio, Bilbao, Spain). My Ph.D. research activity focused on cancer cell biology, with a special emphasis on breast cancer, where I contributed to elucidating the role of SOX transcription factors in breast cancer tumorigenesis and endocrine resistance.
