Short Biography
I am a Research Associate at Cell Line Development and Molecular Virology Lab, where I have been working since 2023. In this role I have increased my knowledge on viral vector platforms within the gene therapy landscape.
My research areas are development of producer cell lines for viral and virus-derived vectors manufacturing for gene therapy applications, with a focus on engineered virus-like particles. Special interests include genome editing as therapeutic tools for Cystic Fibrosis and other rare diseases. I also have expertise in CRISPR genome editing tools, mammalian cell culture, and in a variety of molecular biology techniques.
I hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences from University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal (2014) and a PhD in Biology from University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal (2022). My PhD work was done in a collaboration between Dr. Farinhas’ Lab (BioISI, FCUL) and the University College Cork, Cork, Ireland, where I spent two years working at Dr. Harrison’s Lab. My past professional experience includes roles as Postdoc Researcher at BioISI – BioSystems and Integrative Sciences Institute, Lisbon, Portugal (2022-2023) and University College Cork, Cork, Ireland (2021-2022).
I am the recipient of the 2023 Gerd Döring Award for exceptional young European scientists, given by the European Cystic Fibrosis Society, and the 2022 Innovator of the Year (Life Sciences) Research Award, given by the University College Cork.
