Marie Marotel

Scientist / Translational Immunology

Biography

I am an immunologist with over 10 years of research experience in academia and have joined the Translational Immunology team at iBET as a scientist in August 2025.

I have a strong interest and curiosity in immunotherapy and translational research. I completed my PhD in the lab of Dr. Walzer in the International Center for Infectiology Research in Lyon, France. My work aimed at understanding the intrinsic mechanisms controlling Natural Killer (NK) cell regulation in physiological and pathological contexts, including cancer and chronic viral infections.

After receiving my PhD in immunology from Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, Lyon, France in 2019, I worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, in Dr. Ardolino’s laboratory from 2020 to 2025.

My research has focused on deciphering the molecular mechanisms involved in NK cell dysfunction in cancer, with a particular emphasis on immune checkpoint receptors and alterations in intracellular signaling pathways. During both my PhD and postdoctoral training, I also worked on developing in vitro and in vivo models to facilitate the discovery and evaluation of new strategies to restore the anti-tumor activity of NK cells.
