Short Biography
I’m the lab Head of the Sanofi Satellite Laboratory at the Animal Cell Technology Unit of iBET’s Health & Pharma Division since 2018. Currently, my research interests cover the areas of bioprocessing and bioanalytics, namely applying omics tools and mass spectrometry to increase process understanding.
Our projects are mainly focused on workflows to characterize and streamline bioprocesses and resulting biopharmaceutical products (from biologics to cell & gene therapies).
In 2009 I finished my PhD in Biology from ITQB-NOVA, in collaboration with Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge, developing research in proteomics & Mass spectrometry tools to advance biomarker discovery in Cystic Fibrosis. I did part of my PhD studies at C Boyd’s Lab, Western General Hospital, University of Edinburgh (UK), and JP Albar’s Lab, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain).
In May 2010 I joined TheraProteins, a biotechnology SME, to work as Director of Development, being in charge of the development of biotechnological products, namely oligosaccharide reference standards.
In 2011 I joined the Animal Cell Technology Unit @iBET as a Senior Scientist at the Cell Bioprocesses Lab, and in 2013 took over the scientific coordination of the Mass Spectrometry Unit (UniMS). Since April 2024 I’ve been also coordinating iBET’s Analytical Services Unit.
