Short Biography
I am a Senior Scientist at the Late-Stage R&D and Bioproduction Unit and at the Downstream Process Development Lab of iBET. Working at iBET since 2016, I have been dedicated to the development of production and purification processes of complex biopharmaceuticals, particularly, virus particles like lentiviral vectors, adenoviruses, and adeno-associated viruses.
My activities allowed me to gain expertise on mammalian cells growth both adherent and suspension in bioreactors, and on infection and transfection techniques to produce different targets. Additionally, I am skilled at optimizing the parameters of the different downstream unit operations. I have been working in close collaboration with Contract Manufacturing Organizations which has given me competences in scaling-up and technology transfer of processes that comply with GMP requirements. To achieve more efficient processes, maximizing product recovery and impurities removal, I use Design of Experiments methodology coupled with multiple analytical methods. I have a degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, a PhD in Biochemistry from Instituto de Tecnologia Química Biológica, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a Mater in Quality Manager from SGS Academy. I have worked at Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology, Universidade de Coimbra, where I was also an Invited Auxiliary Professor.
