iBET at Genetics Conference SPG2025 with Best Oral Presentation Award
Empowering Breakthroughs in Biopharma and Food Biotechnology Through Genetic Research
Researchers from iBET participated in the VI International Conference of the Portuguese Society of Genetics (SPG 2025), held at ITQB NOVA, Oeiras, from June 5-6, 2025.
Organized by Sociedade Portuguesa de Genética, the conference brought together leading experts to discuss recent advances in Animal, Plant, Biomedical, and Evolutionary Genetics.
iBET researchers contributed to the scientific program with 2 oral communications and 2 poster presentations, highlighting our research in genetic engineering and microbial genomics.
Oral Presentation and Flash Presentation
PhD student Filipa Moura delivered a Flash Presentation on “Enhancing rAAV Production in HeLaS3 Cells Through CRISPR Activation Screens”. The study explored how CRISPR activation screening of ~20,000 genes in an HeLaS3 AAV producer cell line can significantly boost AAV yields, advancing the potential of these cell lines for scalable and cost-effective system for gene therapy manufacturing.
Inês Leonardo, PhD student from the Microbiology and Molecular Biology Lab, delivered an Oral Presentation on “Microbial genomics meets food preservation: characterization of a prophage from Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris”. This work was performed in collaboration with Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa, to investigate the use of a phage as a source of lysins to eliminate Alicyclobacillus bacteria, as a promising preservation strategy for the food production industry.
Special congratulations to Inês Leonardo for winning the Best Oral Presentation Award!
