GenIbet and iBET Host APIFARMA’s Pharmaceutical Industry Open Day
Pharmaceutical Industry Open Day led by Associação Portuguesa da Indústria Farmacêutica - APIFARMA
On May 29, GenIbet (part of Recipharm Advanced Bio) and iBET hosted the Pharmaceutical Industry Open Day at Oeiras, as part of a nationwide initiative led by Associação Portuguesa da Indústria Farmacêutica – APIFARMA throughout 2026.
The initiative, organized in collaboration with companies from Portugal’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, aims to highlight human resources, promote skills aligned with the industry’s present and future needs, and contribute to the economic and social development of local communities. It also seeks to strengthen the connection between academia, industry, public institutions, and society.
The event welcomed 53 participants, including professors and students from the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, NOVA School of Science and Technology, and Instituto Superior Técnico. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the realities of the pharmaceutical industry, gaining insights into manufacturing and research processes, as well as career opportunities within the sector.

The opening session featured remarks from Miguel Ginestal, Director-General of APIFARMA; Raquel Fortunato, Director-General of GenIbet (part of Recipharm Advanced Bio); and Pedro Cruz, CTOO of iBET.
Participants were given guided tours of GenIbet’s manufacturing facilities and some of iBET’s Research & Development units. These visits provided a closer look at industry operations, key professional roles, and the educational pathways most relevant for future integration into the pharmaceutical field.
The Open Day also included the institutional presence of representatives from the Oeiras Municipality’s Science and Innovation Office and Department of Education, as well as delegates from INFARMED, AICEP, and APIFARMA’s Pharmaceutical Industrialization Working Group. Their participation highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry, academia, public entities, and local governments in promoting qualified employment and fostering sustainable regional development.

iBET thanks APIFARMA and GenIbet, part of Recipharm Advanced Bio, for the co-organization of this event.
