iBET and APIFARMA Welcome European Commissioner Prof Elisa Ferreira
Advancing Innovation and Equity in the National Pharmaceutical Sector
On February 17th, iBET and APIFARMA had the pleasure of hosting the European Commissioner, Professor Elisa Ferreira, at the iBET facilities.
The meeting focused on key aspects of the pharmaceutical industry in Portugal, emphasizing the quality and innovation of national R&D. Also discussed was the recently adopted Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe (Cohesion Policy 2021-27), which aims to ensure more equitable and affordable access to pharmaceuticals and healthcare services across the EU member states.
Pedro Cruz (iBET CTOO) and Patrícia Gomes-Alves (Head of the Sanofi Satellite Lab and Coordinator of Analytical Services Unit and Mass Spectrometry Unit at iBET) provided an overview of iBET’s operational model and the cutting-edge biotechnological R&D activities carried out at the institute, highlighting its contributions to innovation and the pharmaceutical sector.
The meeting concluded with a tour to iBET’s Late-Stage R&D and Bioproduction Unit, followed by a presentation of the new iBET Biofarma building, scheduled for inauguration in June 2023.
