iBET’s Quality Week 2025: Driving a Culture of Excellence
Reaffirming the Central Role of Robust Quality Systems in the Institute
From November 17–20, iBET held four informative sessions and an interactive gaming challenge as part of “Quality Week 2025 – Think Different”.
The program, organized by Tânia Madeira (Head of Quality Assurance) refreshed knowledge on the Business Continuity Plan and the Code of Ethics and Conduct, while introducing two new strategic topics launched in 2025: Sustainability and the HR Excellence in Research Award.
Think Ahead, Stay Ahead: iBET’s Plan to Keep it Going
In the opening session, Pedro Cruz (Chief Technical Operations Officer), outlined the principles of iBET’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP), explaining its structure and how different roles ensure a timely response to critical incidents, minimizing operational impact.
He also emphasized how the BCP is more than a document, but also a mindset that ensures iBET’s resilience.
The Code That Connects Us: Living Our Values at iBET
Ethics at iBET form the foundation for trust and unity. The Code of Ethics and Conduct defines who we are, what we stand for, and how iBETians work together to achieve excellence.
During this session, Tânia Costa (Head of People & Culture) shared real-life examples illustrating how the code guides daily decisions, reinforcing principles of integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Sustainability – A Shared Responsibility @ iBET
In 2025, iBET officially began the process of integrating the European Guidelines on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) into its operations. António Cunha (Head of Biosafety & Sustainability) presented how organizations are adopting these guidelines, focusing on climate action, resource efficiency, and ethical governance.
The session highlighted the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, which requires transparent disclosure of sustainability data. A significant milestone was the publication of iBET’s first Sustainability Brochure, featuring key 2024 data on carbon emissions, energy consumption, workforce diversity, and governance.
iBET’s Path to HR Excellence – Aligning with Europe’s Research Vision
The final session, led by Ana Gomes (External Affairs Manager), focused on iBET’s application for the Human Resources Excellence in Research Award. This process is a long-term, voluntary commitment, that recognizes research institutions that apply the 20 Principles of the European Charter for Researchers, aiming to promote attractive careers and excellence in innovation across Europe.
The discussion was enriched by insights from Eng. David Loureiro, representative of the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG), who shared best practices and lessons learned from their decade-long experience with the award (since 2013).
