iBETXplore Day 2023 – Seeding iBET’s future

Our Annual iBETXplore Day took place on 24 March 2023 at Hotel Riviera, Carcavelos.
iBET’s researchers, guests and partners gathered for a one-day event to present and discuss research projects funded by iBETXplore – our internal R&D funding initiative.

iBETXplore aims to stimulate iBET’s scientific excellence by fostering new research ideas, promoting new internal collaborations, and increase iBET’s competitiveness to attract external funding.

Since its 1st edition, in 2017, iBETXplore has invested over 2.5M euros, funded over 35 research projects and contributed to the advanced training of 22 researchers. The grant proposals are submitted annually and evaluated by an international expert panel. The 2022 call approved 7 new projects across the Health & Pharma and Food & Health research areas, with an investment of over 500K Euros.

The day started with a welcome message from our CEO Paula Alves, a brief overview of the iBETXplore initiative provided by the Organization Committee (presented by Ana Amaral) and a message from iBETXplore’s Chair, iBET Vice-President, Manuel Carrondo.

The event continued with several researchers presenting a total of 6 ongoing projects funded by iBETXplore, and another 4 completed projects as success cases. The last scientific session was dedicated to the newly approved iBETXplore 2022 call projects.

The day ended with a round-table discussion composed by a panel of national and international guests: Michael Hoffman (Sanofi), Elisabetta Traggiai (Novartis), Stefan Ewert (Novartis), Manuel Mazo (CIMA – Universidad de Navarra), Paulo Madeira (Ascenza), Nuno Santos (Sovena) and Hansjörg Hauser (Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung GmbH, Braunschweig), focused on future perspectives of the initiative and chaired by Manuel Carrondo.

The success of this funding initiative was clear with iBETXplore Day 2023, building iBET’s capacity for scientific innovation and fostering new partnerships with national and international industry partners.

We gratefully acknowledge the organizing committee, the event volunteers and the valuable presence and input of all guests and partners.

See you next year!
