Cristina Peixoto Highlights Advanced Characterization of Viral Vectors at Recovery of Biological Products XXI Conference
Advancing analytical strategies to improve purification and manufacturing of virus-based biopharmaceuticals
Cristina Peixoto, Head of iBET’s Downstream Process Development Lab and Coordinator of the Bioproduction Unit, presented at the Recovery of Biological Products XXI Conference, held in Puerto Rico, from April 19-24.
She delivered an oral presentation on “Advanced characterization of viral vectors to optimize purification processes”, highlighting the important role of in-depth product characterization in the development and manufacturing of virus-based biopharmaceuticals.
Her presentation focused on the application of advanced orthogonal technologies, including capillary electrophoresis-sodium dodecyl sulfate couplet with a laser-induced fluorescence detector (CE-SDS LIF), single particle interferometric reflectance image sensing coupled with immune labelling (SP-IRIS IF), and Raman spectroscopy (RS).
Cristina also emphasized how virus-based therapeutics require robust characterization to ensure safety, quality, and efficacy. The integration of advanced analytical techniques enables more precise quantification and multi-attribute measurements, ultimately improving process understanding and efficiency.

The Recovery of Biological Products conference has been widely recognized as a leading international forum for presenting and discussing advances in the recovery and purification of biological products with therapeutic, diagnostic and industrial value to society.
