Building synergies in Cell Therapy: iBET Hosts Dr. Lindsay Davies, NextCell Pharma CSO and QVance CEO
"From Bench to Clinic: NextCell’s Journey of Evolution in Cell Therapy"
On March 11-13, iBET had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Lindsay Davies, Chief Scientific Officer of NextCell Pharma and CEO of the start‑up QVance based in Stockholm, Sweden, for strategic discussions and an iNOVA4Health seminar.
Dr. Davies is an experienced biotechnology executive and scientific leader, with more than 20 years of experience in advanced therapy development, stem and stromal cell research, GMP manufacturing, and clinical trial design.
During her visit, Dr. Davies toured iBET facilities and met with several of our senior scientists to explore potential synergies and opportunities for collaboration. The visit also included interactions with teams from GeniBET Biopharmaceuticals (iBET’s spin off, now part of Recipharm Group) and Visync Technologies (a recent joint venture with our associate member Hovione).
Lindsay Davies visited iBET’s Bioanalytics infrastructure, presented by Olívia Rodrigues, Ricardo Gomes, Patrícia Alves and Lara Silva.
During her presentation, she detailed NexCell Pharma’s development of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) therapies targeting Type I diabetes and other autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
She highlighted the company’s Phase II clinical trial results, which demonstrated the potential of their cell therapy candidate, ProTrans, to slow disease progression in recently diagnosed patients. She also outlined several of ProTrans’ advantages including off-the-shelf availability, no washing/post-processing needed, bedside treatment in the clinic, fixed dosage, extended shelf-life, and scalability.
With a captivating presentation, Dr. Davies explored the scientific and regulatory challenges inherent in developing this type of medicinal product. The seminar also introduced QVance, a complementary new company dedicated to providing specialized quality control analytics and scientific expertise tailored to the advanced therapies market.
