Paula Alves Elected Member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering
Enhancing the Value of Engineering in Society
Paula Alves, CEO of iBET and Professor at NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT NOVA and ITQB NOVA), has been elected as a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering, recognizing her exceptional contributions to engineering and science.
In October 2024, 32 new members from diverse engineering and scientific disciplines were approved during the Academy’s 84th General Assembly. The Welcome Ceremony, where the new members received their insignias and diplomas, took place on December 10th at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.
Founded in 1995, the Portuguese Academy of Engineering is a non-profit institution of public utility dedicated to enhancing the value of engineering in society. It promotes research and development activities within its technical and scientific fields, fosters national and international cooperation, including connections with the Euro-Case (European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering), and ultimately contributes to the resolution of societal problems. To achieve this, the academy relies on the crucial contribution and expertise of its elected members.
Professor Alves’ election highlights her internationally recognized career and leadership in the fields of biomanufacturing and advanced therapeutics. Notably, Paula Alves was also the first Portuguese woman elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2021.
iBET congratulates Paula Alves and the remaining newly elected members for the remarkable achievement.
