iBETXplore Day 2024

On March 15th, iBET hosted its annual conference iBETXplore Day 2024 at Hotel Real Oeiras, Paço de Arcos.

The event gathered researchers, guests, and partners to present and discuss the research projects funded by iBETXplore (iBET’s internal R&D funding initiative).

Evaluated by an international panel of experts, iBETXplore aims to stimulate iBET’s scientific excellence by fostering new research ideas, promoting new internal collaborations, and increase iBET’s competitiveness to attract external funding.

The 2023 call approved 9 new projects (3 on conditional approval), with an investment of over 550k Euros.

Opening Remarks

The day started with a welcome message from our CEO Paula Alves, and an overview of the iBETXplore initiative provided by the Organization Committee.

Scientific program

The scientific program continued with researchers leading 8 ongoing iBETXplore-funded projects presenting their ongoing work and latest results. In addition, 6 newly funded projects in the 2023 call were also briefly presented.

This year also witnessed the addition of a poster session, where researchers had the opportunity to showcase their work on 12 iBETXplore projects from previous calls, nearing completion.

Driving growth through innovation round table

A captivating round table discussion, chaired by Inês Isidro (Head of iBET’s Biosystems and Data Science Team), explored strategies for driving iBET’s growth through innovation and value creation.

The panel was composed of national and international experts: Elsa Abranches (AstraZeneca), Harald Dinter (Consultant), Mariana Almeida (Medinfar), Patrícia Alves (iBET), Thomas Sauer (Sanofi) and Vanessa Cornacchione (Novartis). The session concluded with insightful closing remarks from Manuel Carrondo, iBET’s vice-president.

Networking Cocktail

Lastly, the day ended with a networking cocktail moment, the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow scientists and celebrate scientific discovery in a more relaxed setting.
